Wednesday Cover: Pulp Fantastic

Pulp Fantastic was a virtually ignored, 3-issue science fiction mystery written by Howard Chaykin & David Tischman, drawn by my good pal and collaborator Rick Burchett, and published by DC/Vertigo back in 2000.

The story was a sort of space opera take on The Maltese Falcon, filtered through the Chaykin prism. The art by Rick, was marvelous, with the PI hero resembling a sort of futuristic Peter Gunn. As usual, Rick's covers were sharply designed and eye-catching (though apparently not eye-catching enough, considering the low sales).

If you can hunt up the issues, it's well worth the effort.

That is a nice cover. I've always liked Rick's work... even before Gravedigger!

It's depressing but it seems only a film or tv tie-in is destined for high sales/

WAS THIS A MINISERIES OR A ONE-OFF?

I just recently found all three issues in the bargain bin of my local comic shop. Got them all for 5 bucks. Loved the art work that's why I picked it up. Once I was done reading one issue I went to the next it had me hooked. Wished this became a series though. Really good read. If you find it. You won't be disappointed.
