"Cold-blooded killer, vicious, unmerciful hellion without feeling, without conscience... a man consumed by hate, a man who boded evil..."
That's how writer John Albano described bounty hunter Jonah Hex on the splash page of All-Star Western #10, 1972. I've been a fan of the character for years, and have enjoyed most of Hex's incarnations (even the post-Apocalyptic version from the 80s). I'm both pleased and surprised to see a big-budget Jonah Hex feature film on the horizon.
It looks to incorporate some of the supernatural elements of the Joe Landsdale/Tim Truman miniseries from the 90s, and that's okay by me, as long as they still give the whole thing a cool Spaghetti Western vibe. We'll see.
Thanks for posting this! I was never sold on the The Jonah Hex character until I realized Brolin and Fox will finally put the character over officially. THe poster barely acknowledges Brolin in favor of the flaming hot Fox. A few weeks ago I went back to my BTAS eps on my iPod classic and watched "Showdown," a great ep starring Ra's al Ghul and Jonah Hex. I payed it no mind when it aired originally and I even taped all the shows at the time...but now it takes on a whole new meaning! I'm def. looking forward to this.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely see it. Man, Megan Fox is everywhere these days eh?
ReplyDeleteEven though I've read Jonah Hex since the Seventies, I always did like the supernatural in the the Joe Landsdale/Tim Truman miniseries. And I have to agree with Jay on "Showdown." I saw it when it first aired and it remains my favourite Batman: The Animated Series episode.
ReplyDeleteI'm that rare animal that has never read a Jonah Hex comic book. Nor a Conan either.
ReplyDeleteHmm.
I never read a Jonah Hex either, except some of the Lansdale ones. The odd freakish mixture of western and horror is a weird mix. I hope the movie is well done. There's a DVD out now called The Burrowers (I believe) which is another mixture of horror & the west (or Civil War), but I haven't seen it yet.
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome.
